How To Train A Dog To Settle Down / Relax

This lays the foundation for a lot of different things in dog training. You can use this when guests come over and you need the dog to wait politely before they are greeted, or to provide the comfort of something familiar in a new environment. Once a dog understands the mat to be a positive place, they can experience physiological relaxation in places that may have otherwise been ’scary’ or ‘over-arousing’. I use this very frequently on a daily basis with Solea. She waits on her bed everyday as I prepare and serve her meal. In fact, often times she will go to it by herself as a way of telling me that it’s getting close to dinner time! I also send her to her mat while I gather the things before we go out for practice, work or walks. This assures her that if she remains calm, good things will happen! —————————————————————————— Please SUBSCRIBE & help spread the magic of positive reinforcement, the only way that a dog deserves to learn. ——————————————————————————

This was so helpful. I have watched several of your videos and i love them. I appreciate how easy and straight forward your techniques are. I see my 4 month old puppy responding well to your method to stop biting and nipping. Is she too to teach to calm down or go to her mat? Which commands should I wait to teach her until she is older?

  • CrazyStacey101:

  • HolyEggRollys:

Tab and Solea… I wonder if this guy plays flamenco guitar or listens to spanish flamenco.

  • jybuys:

Thanks for your videos and what a lovely dog !

  • butt3rflyNessa:

@XvitalikX the clicker is just a marker. it marks the behavior you want repeated. kind of like saying “good!” but a little more precise.

  • tsame10:

Your hard work is appreciated! Really Like how you rewarded the release. Nice yard. I enjoy the flowers from drought stricken TX.

  • XvitalikX:

um dont your dog gets confused because you use the clicker for everything? like for come you use the clicker nd for staying you use the clicker?

I have a 6 week old German Shepherd, and I really struggle with training. I was just looking for ways to train it and this was what i found. Thanks for telling me(everyone that saw this) how to train him.

  • Jbirdt95:

What kind of treats do you use that you can give her alot because i can’t give my dog alot of the treats i have… she’ll get really sick.

  • triscleeire:

@cherrybloom22 I think you need help from a professional dog behaviorist on a 1 to 1 base. Best thing to start building trust and a good relationship is hand-feeding – but since I don’t know your dog it might be dangerous. So seriously invest in a dog trainer/behaviorist who is working force free and has experience with rescue dogs. You need patience and good vibes to get the dog to trust/like you – they pick up on your feelings before you do yourself. Remember dogs are NOT toys or robots!

  • j9sk9s:

@316Gar Not clicking twice, but there was a room full of people all working at once, so you hear a ton of clicking in the background.

  • karn95m5652433:

What’s that sound before each movement of the chicken???
    and
chickens instinctively recognize these colors or are trained for it?
chickens or recognize the figures are also trained to recognize them??
Do not know if I fully understand the questions
I am Latina and I had to use a translator!

  • karn95m5652433:

que es ese sonido antes de cada movimiento del pollo???
    and
los pollos reconocen esos colores por instinto o son entrenados para ello??
los pollos reconocen las figuras o tambien son entrenados para reconocerlas????
No se si me entienda bien las preguntas
yo soy latina y tuve que utilizar traductor!!!

  • 316Gar:

    Why do you click twice?

  • gdyby:

@TheOLIVERSIMMONS They believe that cause it’s very convenient to think that hens are dumb while killing and eating them. But it’s not a matter of intelligence, it’s a matter of being able to suffer and this is why I don’t eat animals anymore.

  • TheOLIVERSIMMONS:

and people believe chickens are dumb which they may not be all that bright but not dumb.

  • Britney9122000:

how do you teach it to do thoughs tricks?

  • MiniBlueMushrooms:

wow thats amaising! how the heck did you train her to do that? or is it a her, im not sure??? thats so cool anyway great job. and another question wats his/her name? just wondering! :)

  • texasgirly1979:

    AWESOME!!

  • redcuprar13:

    Wow!

  • Aswivelchair:

2:57 birds like what the hell wheres me target

  • alpacama1:

Thank you- wonderful video. I loved the color and shape discrimination, gave me lots of ideas to work with my hen and other animals! Clicker training rocks!!! and is lots of fun too!!!!

  • Metqa:

Wow, seems your chicken is smarter than my cat. It only took some moments to shape a new behavior, whereas it took days for my cat to do only one shaped behavior. Maybe it wasn’t the cat maybe it was the trainer! The chicken seems like instant gratification for the trainer since it learns so fast and is eager to do the actions! Sigh, now I wish I had a chicken to train.

  • myemosong:

please tell me how to do this i would love to know

  • Pantzna:

exactly why i love them :D chickens are so smart!

  • VHOCDogs:

The reward is commercial chicken feed. It’s how the chickens were fed on training days.

  • wereallcrazynow:

    this is so facinating,

i am doing a year 12 biology experiment on animal behavious and i have a few questions about this as i was thinking of training a chicken for it.

firstly does it have to be a grown chicken i only want it to peck a target and i dont really have a place to keep a full grown one, will it work with a chick perhaps?
when you are training the chickens what are the main things you could record (eg. reaction time, amount of correct and incorrect responses etc)

  • heyfroop:

i tried training my chickens with bread, but then all 5 of them came up. lol very hard to try all at once

  • WhatAchickado:

    They do and they rock!

  • Kaliamammamia:

Ah so much clicking. Nice training, truly shows how smart they are.

  • dogsarebetter:

Wow they probably have the same mental capacity as a dog.

  • rayemond2:

    Great video, thanks for sharing

  • luckygrla:

Who says animals don’t see colors.. they really are so smart!!
